After seven years
of dating we became engaged on Sunday, December 16th 2007. The day before the
event, a huge snow storm had
passed through the Chicagoland area and we took the opportunity to build a
fantastic snowman. Jon's plan
had
originally been to propose in front of the bear cages at Brookfield Zoo during
the zoo's annual winter lights festival because we shared a mutual love of bears. Unfortunately the bears did not feel like coming out to play and so
Jon had to resort to "Plan B" which
included our fabulous little snowman on the front lawn. We arrived home from the
zoo around
9pm on Sunday night and while I was getting ready to take off my shoes Jon came running into the
house telling me I had to come check out the snowman. I reluctantly got up
thinking that Jon had done something silly to our snowman and went outside. When
I reached the front lawn I realized the snowman was holding the exact engagement
ring I had always dreamed of and I couldn't help but say yes.
In 2004 Jon and his parents joined St. Alexander Church after building a new home in Palos Heights. Not too long after, in 2005, I became a happily confirmed catholic after going through the RCIA for several months. In that program Jon and I were able to make many new meaningful friendships and soon found our parish home to be at St. Al's. Since the church has so much meaning for us we are excited to be getting married there this spring by our pastor, Fr. Cronin.

After an extensive search of 17 reception halls, Jon and I fell in love with the very last place we found. After looking at a few other halls we randomly saw this place while driving down Roberts Road and it only took a split second and one look to pass between us before we turned around to check it out.
